From Peanut Sauce on lettuce wraps to Chimichurri on a sandwich or Hollandaise on roasted vegetables, a good sauce elevates anything you put it on.
And fish tacos are no exception. While seasoned cod and corn tortillas taste okay on their own, top them with this sauce and they become fantastic!
Made with Greek yogurt for a little boost of protein and creamy, tangy flavor, this sauce is the perfect balance of spicy and refreshing.
Ready in less than 5 minutes and using just one bowl, once you start adding it to your taco night, you won't ever want fish tacos without it!
The Ingredients

- Greek Yogurt - Ensure that you use plain (unsweetened) yogurt. Full fat or low fat will work. Or you could use a Greek yogurt substitute such as sour cream or regular yogurt if needed.
- Lime Juice- For best flavor, I recommend using a fresh lime (you can also include the zest for extra flavor) if you can, though bottle lime juice will work in a pinch. You could also use lemon if needed.
- Olive Oil- Just a bit of good-quality extra virgin olive oil makes the texture of the sauce extra smooth. It can be left out if needed.
- Sriracha- If you're sensitive to spice, start with half of the amount and then add more after tasting if desired.
- Garlic Powder- One fresh clove minced can be used instead, though I prefer using powder in this recipe for a smoother texture and less bite.
- Fine Sea Salt - Table or kosher salt will work as well- adjust to taste.
The Method
1. Mix. Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.

2. Adjust. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time to reach your desired consistency.

3. Chill. For best flavor, I recommend chilling the sauce for at least one hour to allow the flavors to better come together. If you're tight on time though, you can use it right away.
4. Enjoy. Use on top of baked fish tacos, as a dressing for coleslaw and more.
Leftovers and Storage
To Store: Store leftover fish taco sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Make it Your Own
- Add Avocado- Before starting, mash up one avocado in the bowl and then mix the rest of the ingredients with it.
- Make it Sweet- For a sweet and spicy fish taco sauce, add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup or melted honey.
- Add Cilantro- Stir in ¼ cup of finely chopped, fresh cilantro for extra flavor.

Serving Ideas
While this sauce is fantastic on fish tacos (obviously), there are so many other great ways to use it! Try it:
- With Other Tacos: It is also great on chicken or shrimp tacos.
- On Burrito Bowls: Along with some salsa and guacamole.
- As a Dressing: Use it to dress coleslaw or a green salad.
- As a Dip: With fresh vegetables, fries or chips.
