Wondering what to serve with BLTs? I've got you covered! I've compiled a list of the best options that pair perfectly with this classic handheld. From finger foods and soups to salads and dessert, I've got plenty of ideas for you!
When it comes to easy, last minute dinners, BLTs are always one of the first things to come to my mind (along with Canned Tuna Over Rice). They're easy, they don't require a lot of ingredients, and they tend to be well received by everyone at the dinner table (thanks to the bacon, no doubt!).
But if you're pulling together this delicious sandwich last minute, sometimes what to serve alongside it ends up an afterthought.
So if this is you and you're trying to put together some sides to turn it into a wholesome, complete meal, that's where this list comes in.
Next time you find yourself wondering what would pair well with your BLT, this post is here to give you plenty of tasty inspiration!
Additions to BLTs
Classic BLT sandwiches are just simple Bacon Lettuce and Tomato on toasted bread (I especially love them on sourdough!), usually with a thin layer of mayo spread on each slice.
While this version is delicious despite it's simplicity, if you're looking for some ways to take it up a level, you can try adding all sorts of extra ingredients!
Spreads
In place of the mayo or in addition to, change up your BLT with another sandwich spread such as:
- Santa Fe Ranch- This zesty Greek yogurt based dip is a great way to add some creamy, taco-inspired flavors.
- Mustard- I love this tangy spread on any and all sandwiches.
- Guacamole- This creamy avocado spread on the sandwich adds wonderful flavor and texture.
- Creamy Sriracha Sauce- Add a bit of kick to your sandwich by including some sriracha mayo or Greek yogurt sauce. To make some, combine 1 teaspoon of sriracha with 2 tablespoons of either Greek yogurt or mayo.
- Hummus- Add some more creaminess and flavor to your sandwich. Dill pickle, roasted red pepper or beet hummus would all add a unique twist.
- Barbecue Sauce- Lettuce, tomato and bacon are all amazing on a BBQ burger so why not give your sandwich a BBQ flair with the addition of some BBQ sauce.
- Greek Yogurt- A creamy, yet lighter alternative to mayo, Greek yogurt adds a bit of tang.
- Ranch Dressing- This tangy favorite dip is a scrumptious on a sandwich. (It's what I always use on this Sourdough BLT Sandwich).
- Pesto- The fresh basil flavor of pesto is a great match for the tomato in the BLT.
- Chimichurri- This herb and parsley sauce will give your sandwich garlic bread vibes.
Elements
Another great option for enhancing your hearty sandwich is to include:
- Fresh Herbs- Try adding some chopped fresh herbs such as parsley, basil, chives, dill or cilantro for extra flavor.
- Cheese- Cheddar, mozzarella, goat cheese and cream cheese are all excellent.
- Microgreens- Give your sandwich some extra crunch and vegetables by including micro-greens such as alfalfa sprouts.
- Fried Egg- A fried egg pairs wonderfully with the lettuce, tomato and bacon and makes the sandwich more filling.
- Avocado- Just like spreading on guacamole, adding sliced avocado gives the sandwich extra creaminess and adds some more veggies to it.
- Chicken or Turkey- For a bit of a "clubhouse" inspired BLT, try adding some sliced turkey or chicken, like I do in this Turkey BLT Sandwich.
Finger Foods
Tasty finger foods are a great side dish to BLTs and can make it a fun, no-utensils-needed kind of meal.
Devilled Eggs- For a protein-packed side, try serving your sandwich with some devilled eggs (this avocado version is my favorite). Or if that's too time-consuming, you could simply serve them with boiled eggs instead.
Onion Rings- A classic side dish, onion rings are a great addition to your BLT (or you can even try adding them to the sandwich itself!). To keep them on the healthier side, you could make this baked version.
French Fries or Potato Wedges- These baked fries are crispy, perfectly seasoned and are one of the best sides to serve with this favorite sandwich.
Sweet Potato Fries- Use sweet potatoes in place of regular potatoes in this baked fries recipe for the perfect side dish to your BLT.
Baked Sweet Plantains- A fun alternative to fries, this easy side dish is crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside and the ideal combination of salty and sweet.
Fresh Vegetables (Aka: Crudite)- For an easy, healthy side dish, serving your BLT with some sliced carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers or whatever other fresh veggies you enjoy best is a great way to make it a complete meal. Feel free to serve them with a dip too (I love using hummus).
Mozzarella Sticks- Golden brown, gooey and cheesy mozza sticks are tasty with almost anything! This homemade and healthy baked version is my go-to and a great option to round out your meal.
Beet Chips- These crispy chips are made with just three ingredients in the air fryer and make for a fabulous accompaniment to your BLT sandwich.
Garlic Kale Chips- Hands down the best way to eat your greens (IMO), this easy recipe makes a great side to a BLT.
Pickles- So easy (just spoon a few out of the jar!), pickles are such a flavorful (and crunchy) side.
Soups
Soup plus a sandwich is my favorite meal combination. Try your BLT with one of these:
Tomato Soup- Honestly, this soup is a sandwich's best friend.
Potato Soup- This creamy soup makes for a delicious and filling side to a BLT.
Mushroom Soup- Full of earthy flavor, I love the contrast of this soup with the fresh flavors of a BLT.
Salads
Sandwiches and salads paired together make the perfect meal. One of these delicious salads is sure to be an excellent choice with your BLT!
Caesar Salad- A great accompaniment to almost any meal, I find a Caesar salad is especially delish served alongside a BLT.
Spinach Salad- This green salad is topped with a balsamic vinegar poppyseed dressing, plenty of berries and roasted nuts for crunch.
Caprese Salad- This simple, yet fresh salad complements the flavors of a BLT nicely.
Pasta Salad- For a heartier option, a pasta or macaroni salad (such as this chicken bacon ranch version) pairs nicely with a good BLT for a filling meal.
Potato Salad- Like pasta salad, potato salad is a filling side to serve with your handheld. This recipe uses Greek yogurt in place of mayo for a protein boost.
Santa Fe Salad- My all-time favorite salad, this is one of the best sides to serve with a BLT.
Slaw- Whether you prefer classic, Chimichurri or this Lemon Tahini Slaw version, coleslaw makes for a simple BLT side.
Baked Beans- Packed with protein and fiber, tender baked beans are a hearty and flavorful side to your BLT.
Sweets
And last but certainly not least, if you're looking for a sweet side to serve with your BLT, try any of these.
Fresh Fruit- Sliced apples, fresh blueberries, grapes and more. Any fruit that you love will pair nicely with your sandwich (especially with some Vanilla Bean Hummus for dipping!).
Apple Nachos- Enjoy your "apple-a-day" with these thinly sliced apples topped with nut butter, granola and seeds for a healthy and tasty treat.
Fruit Salad- If the vegetable salads above didn't suit you, try enjoying a fruit salad instead!
Chocolate Chip Cookies- A timeless and always welcome dessert.
Hopefully you have found plenty of inspiration for what to serve with sandwich in this post!
